Adding, reordering, changing the cover, deleting: the steps on Airbnb and on Booking.com, and what is worth changing before you start.
In short. On Airbnb you change photos in the listing editor, under Photo tour; changes may take up to 30 minutes to appear. On Booking.com you change them in the Extranet, under Property → Photos, or in the Pulse app; changes can take up to 48 hours. On both, the first photo matters most, and on Booking.com an automatic feature can decide the order, which you can switch off.
According to the Airbnb Help Center, on a computer:
| What you want to do | Where |
|---|---|
| Add a photo | Listings → your listing → Listing editor → Photos → Add +, then assign it to a room |
| Reorder the first five | Photo tour → All photos → drag them into the order you want (saved automatically) |
| Change the cover photo | Photo tour → All photos → select the photo → Make cover photo → Save |
| Delete photos | Photo tour → All photos → Manage photos → select → bin icon → Delete |
| Add a caption | Photo tour → All photos → select the photo → Add a description for this room or space → Save |
Three things to know:
Before re-uploading everything, find out which photos are worth changing.
According to the Booking.com Partner Hub, in the Extranet:
| What you want to do | Where |
|---|---|
| Add photos | Property → Photos → Add photos |
| Add them to a room or unit | drag them from the main gallery into the room's gallery, or click Edit on the photo and tick the room |
| Reorder | Property → Photos → drag the photos |
| Change the main photo | drag the photo to the Preferred main photo spot, or Options → Set as preferred main photo |
| Delete | select the photo → Options → Delete → OK |
| Tag or rotate | Options → Edit or tag; to rotate, click Edit on the photo |
You can do the same in the Pulse app: More → Property details → Photos.
Good to know:
Replacing photos without a clear reason changes little. It is worth doing in these cases:
Editing is allowed as long as the home stays the real one. Booking.com lists over-processed, heavily filtered, excessive HDR or distorted photos among those to avoid, and Airbnb asks hosts to remove content where AI or other digital tools have been used to hide flaws or add features the home does not have. Correcting light, colour and lines is a different matter: it makes the home look the way it does in real life.
The sizes for each platform are in Photo size and format for Airbnb and Booking.com, and choosing the first photo in The cover photo on Airbnb. If your photos are there but fall flat, we improve them with Photo Enhancement, with no site visit.
We will tell you which photos in your listing to replace and which just need improving.
Frequently asked questions
In the listing editor, under Photo tour: add photos with the Add button, reorder them by dragging under All photos and delete them from Manage photos. Changes may take up to 30 minutes.
In the Extranet: Property, Photos, Add photos. In the Pulse app: More, Property details, Photos, Add photo. You can then drag them into the right room or unit gallery.
On Airbnb it can take up to 30 minutes, on Booking.com up to 48 hours. On Booking.com, if they still do not appear after 48 hours and meet the requirements, report it through the Extranet.
Smart ordering is probably switched on: it reorders photos using machine learning. You can turn it off with the toggle under Main gallery, in Property and then Photos.
On Booking.com you can rotate it, tag it and assign it to a room; on Airbnb you can move it to another room and add a caption. To correct light, colour or lines, it needs editing first and then uploading again.
