Virtual staging: how your home could look

See your real room furnished or restyled before you spend. How it helps hosts, what can change and what stays as it is.

In short. Virtual staging takes a photo of one of your rooms and shows it with different furniture or in a different style, while the walls, windows and doors stay as they are. It lets you see how the home could look before you spend, while you still have furniture to buy or a refresh to plan. Your listing photos, on the other hand, stay photos of the home as it is.

How it helps hosts

Furnishing or refreshing a rental home costs money, and mistakes only show once the furniture arrives. Seeing the result on the real room first helps most in these cases:

  • An empty home to furnish. You see the room with different furniture before ordering it: whether the sofa fits, where the table goes, how many beds you can add without losing space.
  • A dated home to refresh. Walls, fabrics, lamps, a few new pieces: you try combinations on the photo and choose the one to make real.
  • Several styles side by side. The same room bright and airy, warm and rustic, or pared back: you choose by looking, not by imagining.
  • A decision to share. Showing a family member, a business partner or the owner how the home could look persuades more than a description.

The result has to stay achievable: a room you could really get with the furniture and finishes shown, not a different home. That is why you start from a good photo of the room as it is today, shot in full, straight and bright. The sizes for a well-made photo are in Photo size and format for Airbnb and Booking.com.

Virtual staging and home staging

Home staging prepares the home with real furniture and objects, usually before photos or viewings. Virtual staging changes the furniture in the image only. They work well together: virtual staging helps you choose, home staging makes the choice real, then the photos show the finished home. How to prepare each room before the photos is in Staging a holiday rental for photos.

What about listing photos?

Virtual staging is for deciding, not for replacing your listing photos. Airbnb's ground rules for hosts require photos and descriptions that accurately represent the space, and Airbnb asks hosts to remove images where AI or other digital technology has been used to add amenities or features the home does not have. The Booking.com Partner Hub asks for realistic photos of the property.

Once the home is furnished, you need new photos of the home as it is. How to replace them without losing the order of your gallery is explained in Changing your listing photos.

Our packages include Virtual Restyling: it shows your real rooms with different furniture or a different style, so you can see how the home could look before you change it.

Send us photos of the room you want to change and we will tell you what we can show you.

Frequently asked questions

What is virtual staging?

It is the digital editing of a photo of a room: furniture, style, colours and fabrics are changed or added, while the structure stays as it is.

Can an empty room be furnished virtually?

Yes, it is one of the most common uses: seeing the room furnished before buying anything helps you choose sizes, layout and style.

Can walls be moved or windows added?

No. Virtual staging works on furniture and finishes. Walls, windows, doors and ceiling heights stay real, so the result can actually be achieved.

Can I use the images in my Airbnb or Booking.com listing?

Not until the home is furnished that way. Listing photos must show the space guests will find: Airbnb asks hosts to remove images edited to add features the home does not have, and Booking.com asks for realistic photos.

What is the difference between virtual staging and home staging?

Home staging uses real furniture and objects, arranged in the home. Virtual staging changes the furniture in the image only and helps you decide before you spend.
